Have You Put Draining The Water Heater On Your Fall Things-To-Do List? You Should, And Here's Why Arlington Heights, Illinois
On your fall to-do list, it’s important to add on the chore of draining your water heater. Draining and inspecting the components of your tank can prevent you from having a flooded basement or needing to get your unit repaired or replaced.

Sediment buildup accumulates on the bottom of your water heater as you use it. This buildup of minerals and other particles can prevent the water inside the tank from heating properly. It also benefits you to remove the sediment so it doesn’t end up in your water.

When you are draining your tank, you should take a couple of temperature readings of the water to make sure the water is reflecting the temperature of the thermostat. Too cold or too hot of water can indicate a malfunction of the heating components.

While water is draining, take a moment to inspect the outside of your tank as well as the water coming out. You want to take note of any rust, which could indicate it may be time to replace your unit.
